Volkswagen's oil pans are made of a paper-thin cast aluminum that is easily cracked by many objects such as road debris, manhole covers and speed bumps. While your car may be at stock height, there is only approximately 4 inches of ground clearance with your oil pan. If you are lowered from stock height, there is very little room for error when negotiating an object in your path. Here is some information on this Evolution Aluminum Skid Plate for those of you that haven't seen it before.

The plate is 5052 grade aluminum and is 4.8mm (.191 inches) thick.

Oil Changes: This skid plate will need to be removed in order to gain access to the oil filter and drain plug. Removal of the skid plate for oil changes is very quick and easy taking 1-2 minutes. Only the bottom five 10mm bolts need to be removed and the skid plate drops right down and off of your VW.

I've had this skid plate on my Jetta for about two years now and it's been worth every penny. I run low and make multiple road trips to shows up and down the West Coast and this unit has taken some hard hits, but saved me from being stuck on the side of the road with a cracked pan... definitely worth the piece of mind! Just purchased one for my wife's MKIII.

Absolutely phenomenal kit.
I have messed with cars for years and the best aftermarket kit of anything I have ever put on. Very pleased with it.
The instructions were great as well. No problems whatsoever.

During my previous employment I was a duistributor for these skid plates. And let me tell you they work awsome. They are extreamly well built and easy to install. We went from doing 1-3 oil pans a month to pretty much 0 after severall months. At the time we were installing these they were actually cheeper than installing VW so called plastic skid plate not sure what VW prices are now. The customer service with Evolution is top notch they will go out of their way to make sure you are satisfyed.

I'd just thought I'd drop a note to you about how well your skid plate performs. I went camping with some friends this weekend. My roommate asked if we could take the jetta, because of the better gas mileage than his truck. When we were about 3/4 of the way there, the other group meeting us there calls up on the cell phone and says they hoped we were in my roommates truck. The road to the camp site was worse than they thought it was going to be. This was a MAJOR understatement. The road was TERRIBLE. It was 5 miles down a cliff side. All dirt, gravel, and rough rock. MOSTLY rough rock. Must have bottomed out at least 50 times. About half way down, a 4x4 truck coming the other way, and the people in the truck look at us in utter disbelief that we are traversing this road in the VW jetta. We chat for a second, and they say, "Gooooooood VW!". It took us 30 minutes to go 5 miles. The next day we had to go back up again. When I got home I took these photos. All I can say is that this absolutely saved my car from major damage. THANK YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A GREAT PRODUCT!
